We are Yoga-Life Perfection of NY. Our Yoga centre was founded in 1965 as Yoga of Westchester, located in New Rochelle, NY. We soon expanded to included branches in Manhattan and at The Old Mill Farm on the Hutchinson River Parkway just outside of White Plains. At the time we also had about 13 teachers, mostly trained in our teacher training classes, who taught in and outside the centre in schools and churches throughout New York City. In 1984 we moved our New Rochelle centre to Queens at the request of our Guru, Sri Chinmoy.

On July 13, 1977 we received our new name, Yoga-Life Perfection of New York, from Sri Chinmoy in a beautiful and unforgettable evening of meditation, song and recitation at our Manhattan centre. It was especially unforgettable because that was the night that the lights went out all over the city! Of course, with our Guru present we were not left in the dark! Candles were also burning for our evening of meditation and we had plenty of extra ones on hand. We thought the function would keep going until the lights went on and Sri Chinmoy took advantage of the extra time to compose a few beautiful pieces, which later appeared in Everest Aspiration, one of the well-over-a-thousand inspiring books he has written. You will find one of those pieces, particularly relating to Hatha Yoga, at the start of the Yoga page which will also include links to breathing, meditation, yoga philosophy, our new Yoga practice CD and more.

Nutrition is an important aspect of life-perfection. In 1984, Sarama, our director, received an MS in Health Science and a Certificate in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. We shall have Holistic Nutrition pages, with some thus far not widely disseminated information on health issues and alternative therapies. We will also have links to other helpful and reliable sites.
